Moon spells of Mabon

cropped-samhain-altar1.jpg

Merry meet all,

The Harvest Moon reigns over the autumn skies tonight. This is a good time to casting spells and thanking the Moon Goddess for blessing your gardens with her powerful lunar energy. Remember to thank the faeries and your chosen deities for their aid with your gardens. Mabon is a time of gratitude and balance.

If you are searching for some inspiration on how to celebrate this magical esbat, I have several posts that include rituals and spells that you can try tonight. You may have to scroll to find them but it is well worth the effort.

Mabon begins this weekend. Decorate your altar with a Mabon theme for this Full Moon. Use apples, corn, gourds, pumpkins, and grapevines on your altar. Add a stag figurine for the Horned God and a seashell to represent the Goddess. Use an altar cloth that represents the harvest of Mabon. You can buy patterned cotton fabric at a nearby fabric store. Clear your altar space, wash the floor, vacuum and sweep to rid of dust. This is a major Sabbat. Once your altar area is clean, you are free to dress your altar for some Mabon magick!!

Remember to cleanse your crystals, smudge your house and property, and use silver and white candles in your ritual. Silver and white correspond with the Full Moon. This Harvest Moon, the light is brighter tonight which allows the farmers a longer time to glean their bounty of crops from the fields.

I wish you all a Blessed Full Moon!!

Blessings,

Lady Spiderwitch

Ashes and Healing

Merry Meet All,

I apologize for not posting lately. For a few days, I was out of town. I visited my family in Pleasant Bay. I had the most wonderful and the most sad time. The good news first. Aside from the monumental task of babysitting my niece and nephew. I also returned to my home roots.

The land in the family dates back to my great-great-great-great grandparents. We are keeping the land in the family. The rhubarb in the garden dates back generations, too, no word of lie.

My spirit is refreshed. I was lost in the natural wilds of the northern tip of Cape Breton. Eagles fly, coyotes and foxes roam, mice gnaw on the walls, and whales frolic in the ocean. The mountains hug the shorelines. The black flies are vicious. I had quite an adventure. My Mother fell through the step of the Spinning Jenny cabin. I wandered through the ancient woods. I never saw a moose but we had a resident dog for company. His name is Trooper. Here is his photo:

He’s a cutie! Now the sad part. On Friday night, when the moon waxed and was full, I cast a circle for an Esbat. I traced a circle in the soil in my sister’s garden. I could not light a match because the wind was strong. I was not meant to have fire energy. (I lit my cauldron the next morning.) I welcomed the Elements, which were obviously present, and invoked the Goddess. The point of the ritual was to scatter my grandfather’s ashes. He was born in Pleasant Bay in 1919. It makes sense to scatter his ashes there. He also managed the farm there and used workhorses (we once found the teeth of the workhorses in the field.) It was very emotional and powerful. I cried and literally had to force myself to scatter the ashes. It felt so final. Like I was truly saying goodbye. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I stood on that windy hilltop, and opened the box and the bag. The box had a weird energy. It is done and over with. It was emotional though. I am relieved and accepting of the fact that he is at peace.

The rest of my trip was wonderful. I ventured down to the beach and listened to the ocean waves rumbling over the rocky shore. I watched seagulls dive over the waves. It is all so magickal. I walked through the mystical woods. I am so ready to attack my ghost story now because of the time I spent there. My spirit is renewed. I feel better and happy to have spent time with my family. Everyone needs that.

I am working hard on my garden. It is beautiful and crawling with insects. Every garden does. I will keep you posted about my gardening.

Blessed Be

Flower Moon

Merry Meet All,

The Full Moon occurs on May 25th! This would be a great time to seek blessings from the lunar Goddess to your seedlings. A lunar eclipse occurs on the same night. That adds a powerful boost to the magickal energy vibrating in the air.

To add some moon magick to your garden, consider planting silver plants that evoke lunar energy. Try mints, silver lamb’s ears, moonflower, Japanese painted fern, lungwort, dusty miller, rose campion, sedum, Silvermound Artemisia, and silver sage. Silver mound Artemisia is a Wormwood plant and has a beautiful musky smoky scent. The leaves truly are silver in colour. If you get your witchy mitts on this annual plant, do not let it go. It makes a great fragrant incense, perfect for lunar Esbats.

One suggestion: plant silver lamb’s ears at the base of an Echinacea/ purple coneflower plant. The silvery foliage compliments the tall leaves of the coneflower. Trust me, it’s beautiful. I did that in my garden.

It is now warm enough for the brave Witches/ Pagans and Wiccans to perform their rituals outdoors. Performing outdoors means that you are more in harmony with nature, can meld with the energy, and after the ritual, you and your tools gain more energy from performing outdoors. Just be careful where you perform the rituals. Trees are leafy enough now that you can also have some privacy.

The upcoming Full Moon is known as Flower Moon. Flowers are in bloom everywhere. Growing silvery plants can boost your magickal workings!!

Blessed Be,

Waxing of the Moon

Merry Meet All,

The moon is currently 92% illuminated and is in the Waxing Gibbous phase. Gibbous is an astronomical term for describing a planetary body that is almost fully lit up. Tonight you can see the moon glowing in the night sky. The next phase is the Full Moon. That brings culmination. The current Gibbous phase now tests our patience and forces us to resolve our current pressing issues.

In 2 days there will be an eclipse bringing a time of shifts and changes as Mercury and Jupiter (Ideas and Belief) make an aspect. This is a great night to review goals and intentions and reaffirm what it is you wish to manifest. Create a positive affirmation so that when Mercury and Jupiter align, you are ready to set it in concrete.

The moon entered Libra this morning and remains there until tomorrow afternoon when the moon goes Void Of Course. Libra is about finding balance. Libra brings beauty and creativity to our lives. Heed your inner voice and what your intuition is trying to tell you. Focus on what you need to act on. Mint, thyme and sage will bring renewal. Ylang-ylang in the burner adds a romantic feeling to your home. The corresponding herbs to use are feverfew, violet, catnip, lemon balm and St.John’s Wort.

Mercury’s sextile to Jupiter today signals positive thinking, insight, and teamwork. Today is governed by Mars, the Red planet, the God of War and Conflict, Mars is Action! The energy of Mars is strong, eager and capable to meet the tasks presented. Mars represents our drives and ambition. Now is the time to tap into magicks to meet goals. Tuesday is the day to face down what has hounded you.

Wear the fiery colors of Mars today to signify your willingness to conquer fears. Carry bloodstone or carnelian in your pocket to reinforce your convictions. Work with snapdragons and thistle to create a shield around you.

Burn red spicy candles to add magickal aromatherapy to your home. Cook a lovely meal of fiery spicy foods to bolster yourself for success.

The magickal colour for Tuesday is red. Red is a hot colour and the colour most often selected by extroverts. In China, red is the colour of prosperity and joy. Red symbolizes passionate love. Mars is known as the God of War.

Red is associated with warmth. Red also means danger. Red is the colour of blood, which is associated with warmth and blood.

The Moon rises tonight ~ 17.34 Moon sets ~ 04.26

Blessed Be,

Quickening Moon

Merry Meet All,

Tomorrow the Full Moon shines regally in the velvet sky. I plan to perform a full moon ritual and hope you all do too. The upcoming Full Moon is known as the Quickening moon, a time when the earth stirs beneath the snow and soil.

I cleaned my apartment up some today to welcome in the cleansing energies of early spring. Cleaning a home is a great way to embrace spring. Soon, snowdrops and crocuses will emerge from the stubborn soil and grace my garden.

When you cast your lunar esbat, concentrate on honouring the return of spring. Plan your garden and write out what you plan to accomplish this spring. Light a candle at your altar. Put the piece of paper beneath the candle or inscribe your wishes onto the candle and add a sigil such as a rune. Burn the candle and know that your plans or wishes are sent to the Universe. Check it out in August to revisit your goal and check your progress. Burn incense and chant as you visualize your goal:

Constant Moon,
Quicken my heart,
Quicken my blood,
This is the start.

– Ember Start.

I wish you a memorable lunar esbat.

Blessings,
Lady Spiderwitch )O(

Snow Moon of November

Merry Meet All,

The Full Moon is tomorrow night. She will shine bright as a star in the winter sky. I am looking forward to the Full Moon. I hope you all are, too. This Full moon is known as the Mourning Moon and Snow Moon. In early Celtic society, November marked the beginning of the new year.

The colors are grays and blues, and lapis lazuli, turquoise, and topaz stones. The gods that correspond to this moon are Bastet, Isis, Kali, and Hecate. The herbs that correspond are thistle, betony, verbena, and fennel. The Element is Water.

Focus on relieving yourself of any baggage. This allows you to focus on the joy of the future. Do a ritual to release the accumulated baggage. Burn some incense in your cauldron and write what you wish to be rid of on a piece of paper, then burn the paper in your cauldron, and cast the ashes outside. Focus then on what you hope to attract in the coming year.

It is still Samhain, though Winter Solstice is around the corner. Now is the time to make plans for how you plan to celebrate the solstice. I will post lots of ideas for you to get started.

Blessed Be,
Lady Spiderwitch
