Winter Solstice

Yule woods

Merry meet all,

It’s December 1st. I have just put up my tiny tree and downloaded Yule tunes. The arrival of the month of December puts me in the mood for Yule. Winter Solstice is in 20 days. The moon is Waning Crescent currently and is in Scorpio Void of Course.

Winter Solstice is the time when the days are shortest and the nights are longest. The Sun reaches its most southern point in the sky at noon. After the 22nd, the days begin getting longer.

Winter inspires joy and sadness in people. Some people enjoy sking and curling in front of the fire. Others dread winter for the cold and the depression they suffer during the season.

The word ‘solstice’ comes from the Latin words “sun” and “to stop” because the Sun stops in the sky. The solstice days are the times with the least amount of sunlight in the sky.

Blessed Be,

Lady Spiderwitch

The Beauty of Winter

NT3

Merry meet all,

The winter chill bites at us as we bustle about town. I walked on the nature trail this morning and I took some beautiful photos of the garden and snowy leaves. Magically speaking, Mercury has turned direct. I am relieved, to say the least. The Moon has entered Aries and Neptune has gone direct.

The Full Moon comes on the 17th. The Full Moon begins at 10 am and enters Gemini. Gemini is an air sign and represents the time for shortcuts, communication, games, and fun. Have a magical and fun esbat on the 17th! This full moon is known as the Hunter’s Moon and Snow Moon. Concentrate on the transition from fall to winter and how gracefully nature turns season. Think of how you can honor a transition occurring in your life and how you can accept the changes it brings. Decorate your altar and light white candles. Snow is pure and cold.

The Celtic Tree Month of Elder begins on November 25th. Before we know it, the Wheel of the Year will turn to Yule. I’ll post more about how to prepare for Yule.

Blessed Be,

Lady Spiderwitch )O(

Spring into Ostara

Merry Meet All,

Spring Equinox is around the corner? Can you feel it in the air? I hope you are all prepared and have been reading the blog posts here to excite you about Ostara!

I found a beautiful green altar cloth fabric at the local fabric store on discount. The fabric is green, covered with lots of tiny green and white flowers. The fabric is made of either crepe or georgette. I think it will be perfect once I dress and cleanse my altar. I found rabbit candleholders made of coloured glass with spring coloured candles at the thrift store. I do plan to use those for the ritual. I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw them. Gifts come to you when you’re not looking for them. Keep your eyes peeled for some treasures for your own altars.

My essay The Fires of Beltaine will be published in the upcoming Spring Equinox issue of Eternal Haunted Summer. Here is the link: http://eternalhauntedsummer.com/. I hope you find it entertaining and worth reading.

March 27 is the Full Moon. This can be a good time to cast away winter and embrace spring. Storm Moon is the folkloric name for the full moon. This would be a good time for a strong ritual to clear away what does not serve you and reflect on your goals for the rest of the year.

There is lots to look forward to. I wish you all a merry Ostara!!

Blessed Be,
Lady Spiderwitch )O(
