Faeries Siren Song )O(

la cat

Merry meet all,

I want to post about our winged friends. No I don’t mean screeching jays or cooing chickadees. I am talking about the fae, the faeries, our unseen allies. Or so we think. I’m a brave enough adult to dare to believe in the existence of faeries but I also know well enough when to invoke them, honor them and be careful of them.

Faeries can help us in our homes and gardens. They can protect the home and magically guard a home, help plants grow in the garden and protect it, and keep worse nasty spirits away. But where I come from, they can also enchant you to steal you away to leave you to your death!

I believe that Pleasant Bay is highly populated with the fae and spirits. The tiny fishing village where I set my novel and where I grew up is faery territory. They frolic and flit and send out siren songs to lure you to your fate. Their siren song is sung and the people who can hear them are most likely more clairvoyant.

I have strolled through the woods, the nature trails, and hiked on the mountains. As I walked, I saw flashing spots of light and felt their presence. It feels like you’re being watched but you look and nothing is there. You swear your hear giggles but again, nothing’s there. You feel an unusual need to take a certain direction on a walk through the trees but you can’t understand why you wanted to do that. That is what I mean by faeries. They choose to show themselves to you, its not the other way around. They prefer those who are faery friendly and want to help protect the environment.

But its not without its dangers. The siren songs are heard by those who possess the ability to. However, they can confuse those who are weary and unwary. A cliff presents its dangers and small ponds or lakes. Harbours are another hunting ground for faeries. They say the fae were originally blood drinkers. It is possible, I haven’t researched that enough yet. But while I am not sure they sing that siren song, I believe that they do.

Never thank a faery and never linger in their fae world for too long. Never take their food or drink or you will never return to the mortal world. Their time is different than ours. Their logic is different than ours.

Don’t turn your back on the ocean, don’t gaze into the ocean waves too long and don’t get lost on highways. I am sure some of this goes without saying. But if you don’t believe me, then go to the harbor on a foggy night and see for yourself if you are not entranced by the moody misty waves. I have been and know when to enjoy that sensual experience of waves rolling but know when to turn away and go home.

But for those who can and do sense faeries, then embrace your gift. It is a magical and should be treasured gift to sense the faeries. They don’t let themselves be known by just anyone. You must be special. You may just have a brownie or house goblin lurking within the walls of your home. Hint: They like older houses. Leave an offering of pretty silver trinkets, or milk, honey and cookies for them. And never stop believing in magick!!!

Paranormal Experiences

door study

The Attic door in our former Victorian home

Merry Meet All, I ate greasy fries and watched a few paranormal videos tonight. I just joined a Facebook group Haunts from the Cape. They mean haunts from my favourite place in the world, Cape Breton, next to Halifax as my favorite place. I clicked on a video link about the Bell Witch. Then I stumbled onto another cool video. I enjoyed the video but I was never scared by the video. How much of it was true and how much was fake? That is the question.

But I can tell you now about my true experiences. I want to say that 1) I wish these occurrences weren’t true. I get scared too. I get stressed too. Oh yes. I used to live in a Victorian house with my Mother as I was growing up. The house was haunted. I want to share the experiences we- yes, we all had in the house. I allow you to decide for yourselves what happened but I can say it is true. I am so glad to have moved out of the house due to the ghostly activity that is, until I moved in here. I have a cat now. Maybe the spooks will scram. Ha ha

We used to have a back porch. I used to try to open the door only to feel something resist on the other side. I waited and it, whatever it was, would let go. Then I would open the door.  I saw lights go upward, not down, but up the fireplace mantel.  My brother and sister used to feel like we were being chased by something invisible as we raced up the basement stairs. Interestingly enough, I found myself including that in the paranormal novel I wrote. It just felt natural to include it. Then we painted the basement and it ceased. I also saw the number 6 written on the basement walls when we moved in.  My brother Jesse was renovating the house and he says he felt watched all day. We did major renovations to the house.

One night after an evening of partying and bawdy revelry at our favorite bar, my friends and I trudged home and crashed. We all slept in the living room. My friend reported seeing little lights  falling as he fell asleep in the chair.  The attic door in the attic- well, that should be in a Hollywood horror movie. The room was meant for the servants (I think I was my Mom’s main servant but that is another story.) The door was hard to open and close by a mortal hand but it opened and closed on its own. I mean, you had to use your strength to open or close this door. The small attic room was too small for me to stand upright in. In the summer, it was sweltering hot and in the winter, it was Bone Chilling Cold. I hated it in there. I used to do everything in my power to avoid going up in the attic. I was too scared. I hardly ever spent the night up there in all the time I lived in that house. No way

My clairvoyant friends used to come over to and tell me about the ghosts they saw in my house. One was of a cat and the other of a rocking chair and one friend saw an old lady who wore a pink cardigan with grey hair in a bun.  My Mom claims but she now denies that once time the bathtub- claw-footed, poured water on its own. I remember just after we moved in, the long nights when I used to lie perfectly still in my bed and every hair on my body upright and I would listen to noises when I knew damn well every one was in bed. I heard knocks, whispers. I used to open the basement door at night and something would hush. The basement would look so dark- a black bottomless hole. Trust me, it was freaky.

We found blue glass in the garden while we lived there which probably ended up in our yard due to the Halifax Explosion.  I lived in Edmonton years before I moved to Halifax with my family. I remember feeling something behind me as I lay in my bed the night my aunt Jeannie passed. Was it her spirit saying goodbye? I will never know. I remember when my Mother received a phone call that my father (thank the Goddess) had passed away. He was an abusive alcoholic. The caller was millions of miles away but I knew what the call was about and what the caller was telling my Mother without knowing how I could have known. It freaks even me out too.

Remember that I live in a city known for its ghostly history. So this is nothing new here. If you want to know more, you can read the previous posts on this blog and on my main blog Broomsticks & Cauldrons. I discuss Halifax’s spooky history in more detail.  I now live in an old house that is around 80 years old. I don’t know if this place is haunted or not. But I have seen a ghost cat in my apartment and not too long ago I saw a dark shadow. OK a ghost cat I can take but that shadow was too much for me. It was dark and practically walked through a wall. If my chair was not so solid, I would have fallen through the chair. I cleansed and smudged my home.  I am not the type of person who would risk humiliating herself on a blog.So everything I have written here is true but I respect my readers. You can decide for yourselves. I will talk more about how to psychically protect yourself in future posts. So don’t be scared and please keep reading!!   Blessed be, Lady Spiderwitch )O(

Energy

la cat

Merry meet all,

In my novel, The Eldritch Ghost, the eldritch ghost Jonathan Fraser attempts to communicate with Rosemary Bell, the heroic main character of the novel. Jonathan is heroic too but Rosemary is the one who saves him. Throughout the novel, he attempts many ways to communicate with her. In my efforts of course, to be as original as I earlier posted, I came up with an unique way for him communicate with her.

He feeds off her energy. He is not parasitic. He talks to her and moves objects in the house such as causing curtains to fall. But one main way of his reaching out to her is it happens the most strongest when she touches seaweed. If she touches seaweed with him bearing the seaweed curse, he can communicate with her the strongest and deliver a warning or a message clearly.

He drowned in the ocean when Duncan murdered him. His body was buried in the house to cover up the murder. His pain of being torn from his love and his family was so agonizing  he became melancholy. The house became a tomb of gloom and misery. Here he waits, for a spark of life to return and save him. That spark of light to his shock is Rosemary, grieving for the death of her husband.

We have all experienced pain, loss and sadness. We have experienced joy and ecstasy.   You think the ghost is the evil one in the novel but not so. The one suspect is revealed in the end. Jonathan is a powerful ghost. He is both good and some bad. He helps Rosemary when Duncan spies on her but he craves vengeance and traps spirits of those who have died in his misty realm.

He also invades her dreams to communicate with her how he was murdered since he needs her help. She is the tool for him to be saved. The dreams are eerie and unsettling but he desperately needs her help. I am familiar with having odd dreams and experiencing sleep paralysis and I tried to include a lot of my feelings in the book. Rosemary eventually believes Jonathan tells the truth and not the townspeople who aren’t too eager to reveal all the gristly details of the town’s dark past.

I have some experience with the paranormal. I know how that sounds. I live in a city where we take spooks and hauntings for granted. The Five Fishermen restaurant is one such haunted restuarant. I dined there in the past and on the second floor on my tour, the ghosts were like, “You can sense us?” Remember that Ghost movie starring Patrick Swayze? It was like that. They actually have a high turnover rate of employment because the employees see cutlery flying off the shelves.

I will let you determine for yourselves whether ghosts exist. But remember, they were once us.

Proof of Ghosts

1560563_481092325334220_1390160152_n

Merry Meet All,

Do you ever get the creepy feeling there is something behind you or that you are being watched? I am fascinated with ghosts. Indeed, ghosts have intrigued people since time immemorial. What is it about ghosts that is so interesting?

I think it is because they represent the unknown, and that is frightening to most people. We have charted the seas, the stars, and the rest of the earth and our galaxy and beyond. The hardest place to conquer for us yet though that we all cannot ultimately escape is death. Death is the unknown and has remained unknown to us. It is hard to say what it is like, or what happens to us because it is so hard to come back and report the experience. A few have experienced near death experiences and are changed forever. That is for the few.

For the rest of us, death remains unknown. Ghosts however, are about the other side. They have died and in that, have accomplished death. The soul has endured and the flesh is no longer necessary. This is my perspective and it is not carved in stone. It is hard to talk to a ghost and find out what it thinks about death. Mediums and psychics are able to connect with earthbound spirits. The majority of ghosts are earthbound spirits that wander the earth for eternity. I think that is a rather bleak future for eternity. We can’t say whether there is a light that spirits cross over into. I haven’t seen it yet.

Some spirits or ghosts may remain on the earthly plane because they are attached to an area, whether that be a battlefield or a home. There may have been a tragic event that pins them to the place’s energy. These spirits may require the aid of mediums or may be trapped to the energy of a place.

Some earthbound spirits are of a lower energy. They may have a dark energy and/or aura. These spirits feed on the energy of whatever is around them, preferably people. I have encountered this and I was unfortunately frightened, which benefitted the spirit, not me. If you have this happen to you, be brave. I know that now. Bravery is best. A ghost cannot actually harm you. They may cause things to move but cannot harm you.

Ghosts may not be that frightening. They do deserve respect. The movie Poltergeist is partly about the ghosts unleashing revenge on the family’s home being built over graves. Bad idea. Profit over peace of ghosts? There might be many graves covered over or destroyed and suburbs built over them. The people who live in those homes may not all be experiencing a haunting to that level, but it is still good to be respectful.

I said earlier that some ghosts could be attached to an area’s energy. I lived in a supposedly haunted home for years. The home was Victorian in style, which didn’t help matters, at least with me. The eerie green stone on the fireplace and the goat head seemed remniscient of the Exorcist. Same with the green door with the small black handle in the servant’s room. Then if that wasn’t enough, in the servant’s room were a low ceiling for people who weren’t tall and made you stoop down. The room was HOT in the summer and FREEZING in the winter. There were no windows in the room. The little black handle took strength to close and open. It slammed shut on a few occasions of its own accord. I leave it to your imagination.

Many other things occurred in that house. We felt watched, heard knockings at night, whispers, saw small falling lights, objects rolled in an unusual way, cupboard doors opened and closed, voices hushed when I opened the door to the CREEPY basement, we felt chased up the stairs to the main level from the basement, the bathtub faucets turned on by itself. Once I heard drumming but there was no drummer in sight. The servant’s door opened and closed by itself. The creepiest was when I was a little younger and I would be wide awake, very still and feel all my hair on my body stand on end as I would listen all night long to sounds when I knew my family was in bed. I heard footsteps go up and down the stairs at night. I saw faces on my posters on my wall. A voice told me to never come up to the attic. I told the ghost, “You’ve got a deal.” Indeed, I had to be almost paid to ever enter the attic. Our dog then Ozzie would stare at something we couldn’t see. I leave it to your imagination.

People often want to convince themselves that there are spirits present. We are capable of scaring ourselves more than any spirits. It is important to be grounded and centered and realistic to determine whether ghosts are present. The taps or steps might just need repair.

If there is a ghost, then say ‘Hello ghost’ and be on your way. I have the ability to sense energies and yes, ghosts but most of them do not and cannot harm you. Good thing to remember.

Blessed Be,
Lady Spiderwitch

Ghosts, Spirits, Poltergeists Oh my !!

Mist

Merry Meet All,

In the other blog entry, I discussed the veil between the worlds. Now I am going to look at the different types of spirits you may encounter if you do hold a seance. (Remember only channel positive spirits from a higher source.)

A variety of spirits or energies are out there. It’s like looking at the different colors of a rainbow. The colors range from light to dark. Rainbows are a beautiful phenonemon.

First, there are the garden variety of ghosts. They are sometimes referred to as earthbound spirits, trapped on a plane of existence and unable to move on to the Light. They may have a message or a warning for the living and those who were closest to them. Or they are just trapped spirits.

Poltergeists are manifestations of a restless energy. They move objects, make noises, cause electronic equipment to malfunction, and other unpredictable things. They are noisy and distracting. The word poltergeist derives from the German word poltern (“to make noise”) and Geist (“ghost”) and the form literally means “noisy ghost”. The destruction and noise that poltergeists create has no known cause. The haunting can last from a few hours to several months. They are disembodied spirits of a low order, a lower energy level. You would not want one in your home.

Crisis Apparitions

A crisis apparition appears when the living person is experiencing the condition that will lead to his death. A famous example is the 1893 sighting of Vice Admiral George Tyron by guests at his wife’s tea party. The vice admiral, dressed in his formals, walked through his home at the same time that his ship sank with him off the coast of Syria.

Nonhuman entities are a lower level of entity. That can include fairies and shadow people. They have never incarnated as human beings. We cannot ever determine how much intelligence an entity or spirit has.  I can confirm their level of high or low energy and what that means for us. Most spirits are easy to encourage to move on, but some like to stick around. Poltergeists would fall into this category, and tommyknockers, shadow people, and other forms of lower energy spirits. Nonhuman entities do not think like us. They do not premeditate and strive to present themselves as human at first, and only consistent interaction with them will reveal their true form. They call for a more aggressive means to force them to leave.

Residual hauntings have to do with a location. The haunting is tied to the location of a home. Ley lines are an example of a location-based anomaly. A ghost who repeats what he did over and over again in an area where he died is a great example of a residual haunting. The haunting is permanent and is impossible to clear from an area. A traumatic moment in time has a powerful impression on an area. The ghost will replay the moment in time for an eternity, which is sad. The ghost cannot move on to the Light. A person might hear a child’s toy playing or doors opening and closing. They are harmless.

Shadow people have a human appearance. They are the shadows you see out of the corner of your eye. People have reported seeing them. They have red eyes. They are of the lower energy realm and the energy they radiate is malevolent. Telling them to go away may not be enough to get them to leave your home. You do not want these beings in your home under any circumstances. They are fleeting and quick. If you tell them to leave, you may find more of them in your home later. Try ignoring the ghost. They want attention and will do anything to get it. It will be hard. Stick to your guns. Get help from someone. It will be hard to deal with alone. Turn on the lights, yes, even at night. You do not have to leave lights on all night long, but they hide in the dark, don’t they? Meditate on white light filling your house. Lloyd Aurebach wrote a book entitled Ghost Hunting: How to Investigate the Paranormal. He covers the subject in depth and will have information on how to deal with shadow people. Pray you never need to.

Before you leap to clear a house of a ghost, I caution you to first determine if a home is actually haunted. Logic and common sense prevail here. If you have tried everything and are grounded and centered, and still believe you have a haunting, then you may clear the home of the spirit/s. I urge you again to perform with a trusted friend or other person. Most spirits will leave a home on their own. Concentrate on white light and positive energy. They may not want to be there with you, either.

The next entry will discuss how to clear your home of a haunting. Believe me, I’ve been there!!!

Blessed Be,
Lady Spiderwitch

Ghosts

Crow3

Merry meet all,

Do you believe in ghosts? I do. That may seem like a big thing to say but I have a clairvoyant ability to see into the Otherworld. I would love to know if there are others so please comment on this post. Ghosts are difficult to believe in because they are elusive, ethereal and otherworldly-and well, dead. And usually invisible.

I am going to list here some of my paranormal encounters. Feel free to include yours too. Be warned: this is a true story.

Ok so imagine an old Victorian home.  I watched a movie and bored, I turned the movie off. I sat there quietly. It was dark and quiet. Too quiet. I became uncannily aware that a restless earthbound spirit was behind the couch, watching me and waiting for me to be aware it was there. A dark almost formless shape. It seemed sort of human like. I sat there, still, and then got off of the couch. It came from behind the couch. Now the couch was against the wall, near large windows. The mantle + fireplace on the other side of the room. The French doors were open (Thank the Goddess.). I got up and looked at a ghost. It was male, with a dark cloak or dark shadow around it. It’s eyes bore into my soul. I didn’t like that. Nor did I like the weird energy spreading through the room. Yikes! I had enough and fled. The spirit or whatever followed. And you think that was scary? Just wait. I fled up the large stairs to go upstairs. I felt like the Devil was on my tail. It breathed down my neck. It didn’t want me to get upstairs. My limbs felt like lead. I felt it right on my neck and had to force my body to go up the steps. I made it and as a grown woman, still ran into my Mother’s room. She is solid as a rock. I woke her up, much to her annoyance. The thing is, it followed but when I got to her room, the power of my Mom’s love -then, not now- stopped it. We said a prayer and it has not bothered me since.

Yes that story is true. I will swear to it if necessary. This tale is creepy too. It was full moon on Samhain and I ventured down to the Armdale Rotary to observe and worship the beauteous moon shining over the lake. I saw someone seated at a nearby bench and went to take a closer look at the person. The man wore a dark suit and when he saw me looking at him, he vanished into thin air, not getting up and walking away from the bench like a normal mortal. I went straight home.

I visited the Five Fishermen Restaurant, which is famous for its ghostly history and lore. Read more to learn all about it.

Halifax, where I live, has a fascinating and grim history. The Halifax Explosion is one piece in the puzzle of many grim stories. It is also a ghost story. Halifax, or Nova Scotia particularly, is full of ghost stories.

The Halifax Explosion is the largest manmade explosion since the bomb exploded in Hiroshima. In 1917 Halifax was bustling with activity. Many people moved to Halifax to benefit from the prosperity war offers. The fateful morning of December 6 at first was no different than any other morning. Children were on their way to school and boats were loading and unloading.

At 7:30 am the French freighter Mont Blanc and the Norweigan ship Imo both weighed anchor from the Bedford Basin heading for the Narrows and points beyond. The Mont Blanc was heavily loaded with a volatile mix of wet and dry picric acid, TNT, gun cotton, and benzol, bound for the European arena. The Imo under ballast was destined for New York. At approximately 8:40 am they collided as the Imo struck the bow of the Mont Blanc. Fire broke out immediately on the Imo. The captain and crew wasted no time escaping on lifeboats. They rowed to the Dartmouth side of the harbor. The Mont Blanc burned for twenty minutes and came to rest by Pier 6 of Halifax’s north end. Curious onlookers, unaware of the deadly danger they were in, stopped to observe. The ship disintegrated and exploded into fragments decimating population and property. Over 2000 people died, over 4000 injured, and 1630 buildings were reduced to rubble, and 12000 damaged. The explosion was powerful enough to be felt in Cape Breton, 240 miles away. People were killed, blinded from falling glass, wounded, and lay on the snowy ground, shivering from the cold.

Ever since the Halifax Explosion, the silhouette of a man’s head in a window of St. Paul’s church has been seen, the oldest Protestant church in Canada. The window has been changed many times to banish the shadowy reminder, but every time it reappears as a reminder of the horrors of the explosion. No one knows exactly how the man died, but the silhouette remains. See photo below.
The Five Fishermen building was built in 1817 as part of the First National School- the first school in Canada to offer free education. It later became the Halifax Victorian School of Art, managed by Anna Leonowens and was changed to a funeral home. Before the Halifax Explosion, was another great disaster- the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. The Snow funeral home became the place for the final arrangements of the many Titanic victims. Five years later the Snow funeral home was the macabre scene of stacked coffins piled high row upon row from the Halifax Explosion. In 1975, the building became and remained The Five Fishermen restaurant. Stories of flying silverware, and arguing voices after the doors are locked. An elderly gentleman wearing clothing from another time is spotted walking into and through a wall mirror. Two Victorian ladies climb a staircase and vanish. People feel cold spots, and locked bathroom doors open as if by themselves. Paranormal investigators frequent The Five Fishermen restaurant, as it is a magnet for paranormal activity. Now I plan to have a meal there and see this for myself. The Snow funeral home as it was in 1917 is shown below. If I see any paranormal activity, I promise to report all about it on this blog. Here is a link to learn more about the hauntings at The Five Fishermen restaurant: http://fivefishermen.com/about/hauntings.htm
I went to the Five Fishermen restaurant to see if it was haunted. I sat down to enjoy a lovely meal of seafood salad and wine. As I ate, I kept glancing at the wall of wine bottles across the room. I sensed nothing downstairs, and there was so much hustle and bustle of people entering and exiting the restaurant. After I paid for the meal, I confessed to an employee why I was really there. I was given a tour of the upstairs area of the restaurant. We chatted as we climbed the stairs. Halfway up I felt like someone was dancing over my grave. My chest felt tight. We climbed the stairs and reached the top floor. I became uneasy. We went into a small room full of wine bottles. I sensed something almost angry, oppressed, and unhappy. I wanted to leave. I was told this was a very haunted room of the restaurant. I realized that was why I kept glancing at the wine bottles downstairs. I could not remain long in that room. I told the spirit, maybe an old sea captain, I meant no harm. I sensed he was curious about me. We then went to the private dining room- the employee and I- though maybe the ghost followed us. I could almost see people from another time seated at the tables and dining. I was told a lot of mediums have entered the dining room and have wanted to leave. I sensed a spirit or two haunted that room, too.

The Five Fishermen serves excellent food. It is a haunted restaurant and needs a good spiritual cleansing. The Halifax Explosion has created a lot of residual energy that is stagnant and stuck and unable to move on. I hope I have the chance to cleanse the energy there of the residual energy.

The Halifax Explosion and The Five Fishermen restaurant are but two of many ghost stories about Halifax’s grim history.

Blessings,
Lady Spiderwitch
